Penn State has kicked off its summer training camp this week and hopes to create momentum in a few key areas. The offensive line is the big issue going into the 2015 season after the unit struggled to protect quarterback Christian Hackenberg and create running lanes a year ago. That group is worth watching to see progress in camp, along with linebackers and running backs, to name a few.
Fifth-year senior center Angelo Mangiro praised two of his teammates in particular while in Chicago for Big Ten media days last week. He called Paris Palmer “massive” and said he was excited to see redshirt sophomore Andrew Nelson’s progress. Nelson has a firm grasp on the starting right tackle job after starting all 13 games last season.
The O-line and Hackenberg were, as always, big topics of interest for coach James Franklin in a series of interview opportunities in the last week. Andrew P. Shay and Dustin Hockensmith talked about that and plenty more in a segment for the Keystone Sports Network this week.
