While Penn State fell flat in its season-opening loss to Temple, the rest of the Big Ten East division showed promise for huge dividends. Michigan State got on the board with a Week 1 win in advance of Saturday’s clash with Oregon. Ohio State was impressive in throttling Virginia Tech in the second half, and Michigan was highly competitive in the face of roster limitations in a loss to Utah.
The Spartans-Ducks clash highlights this weekend’s schedule and could set the stage for a showdown between Michigan State and Ohio State in November. At least one of those programs should be a player for a berth in the College Football Playoff. Meanwhile, Penn State trended down against an opponent it has historically dominated, creating more questions than answers for the program’s immediate future.
