Penn State is going through its practice reps this summer in search of solutions at a number of key positions, including the left tackle spot and the backup running backs, to name two. The Nittany Lions are hoping for a quick transition from junior college offensive tackle Paris Palmer and holding open an open competition at the running back spot with Akeel Lynch, Mark Allen, Nick Scott and Saquon Barkley the big names to know.
With each interview session and open practice responsibility, a few more details emerge in those races. Coach James Franklin mentioned Wendy Laurent by name among his early camp standouts, which raised questions about Palmer’s ability to stick at left tackle. Barkley has generated buzz since the moment he arrived on campus and could push for playing time as a true freshman.
Fight On State’s Mark Brennan joined Bob Flounders and Andrew P. Shay on the Keystone Sports Network this week to talk about his latest observations and more.
