The Philadelphia Eagles made a series of front-office moves in the hopes of streamlining their personnel strategy, ultimately handing more power to coach Chip Kelly, who just completed his second season in the NFL. General manager Howie Roseman was elevated in job title, but he deferred all personnel strategy to Kelly and a yet-to-be-named executive.
The Eagles previously made waves by parting ways with former personnel executive Tom Gamble, which raised red flags about a potential power struggle within the organization. Gamble had the full support of Kelly and his dismissal was viewed as a potential domino that could lead to Kelly leaving after two seasons. Owner Jeffrey Lurie responded with a move that got Roseman a pay raise and contract extension and kept Kelly happy.
The move was called a “major, major coup for Chip Kelly” by former NFL offensive lineman Ross Tucker in this week’s Keystone Sports Network podcast.
